So it seems that the Tuesday art project should instead be called, The Any Day but Tuesday Art Project. I'm thinking that maybe in this new year I might be able to regain some sense of normalcy and schedule adherence. We'll see. I'm gonna try, really hard. So this week's word is peace. This was meant to be posted closer to the Holidays when peace is a word of the season, but perhaps it is more appropriate at the time of New Year's resolutions anyways. I for one would like a little more peace of mind this year and I am going to pay more attention to that in my life. I'm also going to try to maintain an attitude of peace while stuck in traffic. Traffic is a way of life in LA, so wish me luck. Ok, without further rambling, let me tell you a bit about our respective pieces this week. Liz's is on the top and Kalli's is on the bottom.

This is the very last moment that I glimpsed the sun in 2009. We were at the ocean for New Year's Eve. In that moment of reflection on the year passed and feeling the hope and optimism for the year to come; I felt complete peace. The rhythm of the ocean, the sound of the birds, and holding hands with my husband also played no small part in helping me get there.

I thought of birds because I've always liked the doves that Picasso drew representing peace. These aren't drawn as loose as his style, but I thought they'd look good radiating out like this in repetition, and in earth/water colors to reference the abstract concept of "world peace," whatever that really means.
Interesting, Kalli. I like that you were thinking of peace as it relates to the larger world and I approached peace from a very personal angle. That is what I truly love about this challenge; what do words mean to different people and what images do people assign to those words.
